Tour Overview
Prison Island (also known as Changu Island) is one of the three islands visible from Stone Town, and it takes about 30 minutes to reach by motorized wooden boat. Despite its dramatic name, the island was never actually used as a prison — it was built as a quarantine station for yellow fever patients in the 1890s.
Today, the island is best known as the sanctuary of the famous Aldabra giant tortoises, some over 100 years old, brought from the Seychelles as a gift. You'll also enjoy crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

Itinerary
Tortoise & Island Adventure
Hotel pickup at 9:00 AM. Boat ride to Prison Island (30 min). Guided tour, meet the tortoises, visit the ruins, swim and snorkel. Return boat to Stone Town by 1:00 PM with optional Forodhani Gardens visit.
